However, once I was called to the counter, the gentleman who was in charge was very professional and polite. He was very respectful and efficient. He kept only the documents that were needed and he returned the rest to me. He offered me the option to leave and return to the consulate a couple of hours later to collect my documents or to stay back for 2 hours and wait for the documentation to be available. I opted to stay back and within an hour and a half ... the job was done.

Like several of the other folks on here, I too was very skeptical of the level of service I would experience and was prepared for very bad service. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised by how smooth my experience was.

They are good. Instead we criticize them, why don't we help them by doing some volunteer work. I'm ready to help them too.

So I walked to the consular wing (which is next to the Embassy of Japan) and proceeded to the basement. There are no signs anywhere that one must take a token, but please note ... a token IS required. Some people who came in after me took a token from a token dispenser (which is in bad condition, and there are no signs that is a token dispenser) and they were called to the counter before me. So all of this led me to believe it would be an unpleasant experience.

My objective of visiting the embassy was to get a power of attorney attested by them. Their website provides instructions (although not very clearly) on the documentation required, so I was prepared with all the necessary information. When I arrived at the Indian Embassy, the experience started off badly as there was a gentleman there who told me that I needed to go to the Consular wing, which is about half a mile away from the Embassy. This was not mentioned anywhere on their website.

Went to Indian Embassy @ DC with fear and desparation after reading the review comments. My son's pport had a DOB error and we spotted it only during the time of visa renewal. Went to embassy by 10:30 am and the welcoming was cold as in Indian offices. however the gentleman over the counter was very helpful and listened to my issue. He suggested to visit CKGS immediately and made sure he make a call to their office. At CKGS with in 10 min after I reached they started processing my request and approved a tatkal delivery. I am yet to recieve my pport... however that was a proud indian moment

Today ur website shows me open , at mean time went there , the security told me it’s closed , at list need to kw ppl comming long drive, so sad

By far the worst visa consular services EVER! Poorly designed forms. rigid nonsensical rules. Even worst customer service by CKGS. They desperately need to catch up with the 21st century. I wish there was a way to give it worse rating than a 1 star!

Was disappointed with the way the facility has been organized, but very impressed with the level of service I received when it was my turn at the counter. Good luck to you during your visit!

Tips: The consular wing for miscellaneous services opens at 10:00am, and I suggest you arrive there by 9:30am and take a token straight away. Please ensure you read about the required documentation ahead of time and carry all the requisite information with you so that the work can be accomplished in one go.
