Great dance floor, small cozy place with an inviting atmosphere for live music. If a band you like is playing there, go! The band will be right in your face and the sound is right.
I have been here twice to see two separate bands, March Fourth and Blue Water Highway Band, and enjoyed both times. The venue has tables where you can order food, a bar, and a small dance floor area. The dance floor is a tad awkwardly shaped and is positioned so sometimes the people sitting close to the band have their view obstructed. However, we had a really fun time and it was nice to be able to sit and have a nice meal while the opening bands came on and then be able to go dance when the headliners arrived on stage. My only real critique is that the food is really expensive. It’s around $20 for a tiny personal-sized pizza. On the plus side, they do sell popcorn and potato chips for around $3 a bowl, so if you’ve already eaten dinner you can get a bowl of chips & a drink and not end up blowing your budget.
I always love the music. Our waiter was phenomenal! Just make sure you eat somewhere else before you go here. My very cold burger was enough to ruin my appetite for the evening and I wasn't the only one who experienced the same thing. I did contact the venue with no response, which leads me to believe they don't really care that much.
Venue was amazing. Every seat in this place is great for viewing the band. The food was delicious and I would have given this location 5 stars if the service had also been good. They lost our food order and the drinks and check took forever. However the water with full pitcher at each seat was nice.
I love Gypsy Sallys, such a great addition to the DC music scene. Inspired by the old Georgetown venues Cellar Door, Desperado's, and the Bayou. The ticket prices are cheap and the calendar is packed with great performers. The back bar is great for an escape with solo/small group acts. I dig the VW bus inside. Owners David and Karen are always working the venue and interacting with the patrons, which really makes it feel homegrown. I see Karen often at other shows around town... A true music lover. It's usually pretty easy to get a seat at one of the tables or counters, the food options are good, servers friendly. My only complaint is the obstructed view by the left speaker bank.
